The story is written making use of straightforward language and simple, uncomplicated words. The story is simple, a tad too simple yet it’s touches a chord. It will be worth it. Way too familiar now, you find such stories everywhere around you, the ambitions- sacrificed in the name of family, the discontent at not being able spend more muethy together but I must congratulate Sudha Murthy for writing this some thirty yea Gently Falls The Bakula- a story about a lower-middle class girl and a boy from a sleepy southern town of Hubli who fall in love and how the man’s career takes precedence over everything else.

Ever thought of these things? Shrikant is a very ambitious young lad where as Shrimati is an intelligent yet simple girl. It is a simple book, a simple story, told beautifully.

The contradictions made through and between the two protagonists- Shrimati and Shriman- are beautiful yet very real. His ignorant attitude towards his own wife had made Srimati take extreme steps. Shrikant wanted to be an acheiver. Sometimes I felt I wanted to understand Shrimati a little more, but other than that the characters are well thought out and written. Both are equally brilliant student and neighbour.
